Cinegear 2024 - Warner Bros Studios, Hollywood
Panos Golfis (panosgolfis@gmail.com), July 10, 2024

Once again, in early June 2024, Panos Golfis participated in Hollywood's largest cinema festival/conference/exhibition/seminar, the Cine Gear Expo, held in the historic courtyards of Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California. And, of course, as always, he was the only Greek cinemato-grapher and technical press journalist to participate in this significant event.
Having built long-standing relationships of trust and friendship with international manufacturers and distributors, Panos Golfis had the opportunity to privately discuss with these friends and colleagues both new technological developments and current trends, the impact of AI (Artificial Intelligence) on professional cinema and all the new trends of the filmmaking industry.
The participation of Panos Golfis in Cine Gear Expo 2024 was combined with conducting extensive research and creating exclusive content for Cinematically.

After the backlots of Paramount Studios, Panos Golfis is the only Greek cinematographer and press/analyst that visits the huge facilities of Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California.

The biggest Cine Gear show of all time
For 28 years, Cine Gear Expo LA, the oldest and largest of the Cine Gear Expo family, has been the annual gathering of all the filmmakers of the american west coast. For the past 7-8 years, Cine Gear Expo has also been held in two other American cities, on different dates, in Atlanta in early October, and in New York in mid-March. However, the largest and oldest of the three different Cine Gear Expos is the Los Angeles one, which is visited by thousands of American film and television profes-sionals.
Last year, after 27 years on the backlots of Paramount Studios, Cine Gear left old Hollywood and moved to Burbank, i.e. to the back side of Mount Lee, the small Hollywood mountain, where the historic studios and backlots/yards of Warner Bros Studios are located.
You see, Cine Gear Expo LA has grown a lot in the last 4-5 years and the backlots of Paramount Studios could not accommodate it, which is why it moved to the much larger backlots of Warner Bros Studios.
Also last year, Cine Gear Expo LA had the largest number of visitors of all time, which was immedi-ately evident from the day one!  There was difficulty of walking and moving around in the New York neighborhood of the Warner Bros Studios yards! There were so many people that you had difficulty walking between the booths, under the hot California sun!

This is the Steven J. Ross Theater, the beautiful and high-tech movie theater that dominates the New York neighborhood of Warner Bross Studios. This is where the best and biggest masterclas-ses, seminars, discussions and the competition of the Cine Gear Expo LA 2024 festival took place.

The historic Stage 24 was built in 1935 and scenes from films such as Blade Runner, A Star is Born and television series such as Friends, were filmed there.

The first Cine Gear in the Warner Bros Studios backlots
For the first time in its 28-year history, Cine Gear Expo LA was hosted in the large backlots of Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California.
At the historic Warner Bros Studios, over 100 years old, have been filmed many classic cinema masterpieces like Casablanca, My Fair Lady, The Jazz Singer, Rebel Without a Cause, the recent and award-winning Barbie, and many major TV series such as the globally beloved Friends and The Big Bang Theory.
Cine Gear Expo LA 2024 was hosted on the streets of the New York and french exterior sets of the main lot of the Warner backlots, there where Bonnie and Clyde was filmed, covering an area of 110 hectares with 29 large sound stages and 11 exterior sets. more

Panos Golfis covered NAB again, for the umpteenth time!
From April 11 to 22, 2024, Panos Golfis with Cinematically, and Thanos Galis with Broadcast News, were in Las Vegas, America, once again, to cover the world's largest cinema and all-media confe-rence/exhibition/seminar, NAB 2024!

Panos Golfis, outside the West Hall, early in the morning, on April 12, first of all the correspondents from all over the world, together with his media partner Thanasis Galis.

Thanasis Galis of Broadcast News is making his debut this year at NAB, the world's largest film and all-media conference/exhibition/seminar.

Once again, major changes at the enormous LVCC
The NAB Show isn't just the largest film and all-media conference/exhibition/seminar in the world! It's an amazing event, a well-oiled machine that continuously, every year, grows, renovates, renews, and improves for the better! So, last year too, the construction work for renovation and expansion was evident in the wider, unimaginably large area occupied by all the buildings of the LVCC (Las Vegas Convention Center) together.
Last year, 2024, the South Hall was completed, which the year before, in 2023, was closed for renovation, and the North Hall was closed for renovation and expansion!
However, both last year and in 2023, the beautiful and ultra-modern, bigger than life, gigantic west wing, in other words, the West Hall, stole the show. We're not just talking about a huge exhibition hall, but the largest hall without columns in all of America and one of the 4-5 largest halls without columns in the entire world! We are talking about an unrealistically huge hall where everything is huge on all levels! more

In these two photos you see the main entrance to the new West Hall of the LVCC. Notice that there are armored bollards everywhere to protect the facilities and the thousands of visitors from terrorist attacks.

This is the view of the huge West Hall from below, from the south side of the exhibition/conference hall. In the background, on the left, you can see the Marriot Hotel all dressed up in the huge Blackmagic Design posters.

The large NAB 2024 press office, on the second floor of the Central Hall of the huge Las Vegas Convention Center

The massive LVCC (Las Vegas Convention Center) recently underwent a major $600 million renovation, especially in the new large west wing, the 500,000-square-foot West Hall, which debuted 4 years ago. The expansion and renovation of the west wing will be completed this
year, in 2025.

At last year's NAB, the north hall of the massive Las Vegas convention center was closed for renovation and expansion. The year before last, at NAB 2023, the south hall was closed for the same reasons, for renovation and expansion.

FYI, the NAB 2024 exhibition site was spread over an area of 200 hectares, or almost one million square meters. To make it easier to move around this huge area of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the organizers had chartered many Tesla electric vehicles, sponsored by Elon Musk, and many golf carts, to make it easier and faster to travel through the two large 12-kilometer-long tunnels that connect the three huge halls of the event, the Central, the West and the South.
